The study, published in Immunity, identified the enzyme SSAT as a key player in the loss of function of Treg cells, which are crucial for controlling inflammation. By inhibiting SSAT, the researchers were able to restore the regulatory function of Treg cells in a mouse model, breaking the cycle of inflammation. This approach offers a promising alternative to existing treatments, which often involve immunosuppression and increased infection risk.
