Pharmacists embedded in NHS Lanarkshire's child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) have significantly reduced wait times for medication reviews. According to Michael Mitchell, an advanced clinical pharmacist, the average wait time has decreased from 12 weeks to just under 7 weeks. This initiative allows psychiatrists to focus on more complex cases, increasing overall prescribing capacity. The pharmacists have also improved appointment attendance rates and provided additional patient appointments, demonstrating their role as independent prescribers who contribute to patient care and education.
