The California Air Resources Board has authorized the expansion of STAX Engineering's carbon capture barge service to include tankers. This move aligns with California's Ocean-Going Vessels at Berth regulation, which aims to reduce emissions from tankers at ports. STAX Engineering's technology captures exhaust emissions from vessels without requiring modifications, removing up to 99% of particulate matter and 95% of nitrogen oxides. The service has already treated 1,192 vessels, capturing 190 tons of pollutants. By 2027, STAX plans to operate 27 barges across all California ports.
