The Mediterranean Coastal Cliffs Preservation Government Company has issued a warning regarding the unstable calcareous sandstone cliffs along Israel's Mediterranean coastline, which pose a significant risk of collapse. Despite recognizing the need for reinforcement since 2010, necessary funding has not been secured. CEO Ilan Lavi highlighted the immediate danger, stating that all cliffs could collapse at any time. Approximately 45 kilometers of the coastline, from Hadera to Ashkelon, are lined with cliffs that have become increasingly unstable, with collapses occurring more frequently in areas such as Sharon, Tel Aviv, and Netanya. The preservation company focuses on protecting cliffs from sea erosion, while local authorities are responsible for land-based reinforcements, which require substantial funding and expertise.

Despite requests for NIS 500 million from the government, progress has been slow, and no decision has been made for the state to assume responsibility. The Interior Ministry has secured an initial NIS 60 million for coastal municipalities and continues to seek additional funding. However, many local authorities have yet to utilize the allocated funds. The Environmental Protection Ministry has not responded to requests for comment, highlighting the need for coordinated efforts and decisive action.
