What's Happening?
Film Independent has selected six writers for its 2025 Episodic Lab, which will take place in person from August 11-22. The lab aims to provide individualized story and career development for writers with original television pilots. Participants include Bryce Cracknell, Spencer Jamison, Rom Lotan, Lilian T. Mehrel, Leah Sarbib, and Ida Yazdi. The program offers personalized feedback from experienced showrunners, creative producers, and executives, serving as advisors. Netflix, as the Founding Sponsor, will provide learning opportunities from showrunners of its series. The lab culminates in a networking and pitch event, allowing fellows to present their work to studio and network executives. Additionally, Lilian T. Mehrel will receive a $20,000 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to support the development of her pilot, 'Baddies'.
