What's Happening?
Film Independent has selected six writers for its 2025 Episodic Lab, which will take place in person from August 11-22. The lab aims to provide personalized story and career development for writers with original television pilots. Participants include Bryce Cracknell, Spencer Jamison, Rom Lotan, Lilian T. Mehrel, Leah Sarbib, and Ida Yazdi. The program offers feedback from experienced showrunners, producers, and executives, with Netflix as the Founding Sponsor. Fellows will refine their pilots and learn industry navigation skills, culminating in a networking and pitch event with studio and network executives. Creative advisors and guest speakers include notable industry figures such as Christian Alvarez, KJ Booze, and Wendy Calhoun. Additionally, participant Lilian T. Mehrel will receive a $20,000 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to support the development of their pilot, 'Baddies'.
