Starling 'Star' Lawrence, the former editor-in-chief of W. W. Norton, passed away at the age of 82 on August 21 at New York-Presbyterian Hospital following a brief illness. He was promoted to executive editor in 1989, editor-in-chief in 1993, and vice chairman in 2000, roles he held until 2011. Lawrence was instrumental in acquiring significant works such as Sebastian Junger's 'The Perfect Storm' and Michael Lewis's 'Liar's Poker', both of which became major successes. His editorial career spanned over five decades, during which he also supported authors like James Grady, Michael Ondaatje, and Nicole Krauss.
