Guam Community College Expands Youth Workforce Development Through Strategic Partnerships

Guam Community College (GCC) is actively enhancing its youth workforce development initiatives by expanding literacy programs and forming partnerships with local institutions. GCC President Mary Okada announced these developments during a recent Board of Trustees meeting, highlighting the successful completion of the governor's summer youth employment program. The college's career and technical education summer program involved 102 participants, including ninth graders who earned college credits and obtained food service management certification. GCC's literacy navigators program, initially funded during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been localized to work with the Guam Public Library System, Department of Youth Affairs resource centers, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities. The college is also developing partnerships with charter schools to create pathways for students from ninth to 12th grade into postsecondary education.
