Funding Announcement
In October 2020, Pepper Content, a content services marketplace, finalized a Series A funding round, successfully raising $4.2 million. Lightspeed India
led this investment, which is a crucial development for the Mumbai-based startup. The company, founded in October 2017, serves as a platform where content creators and businesses connect. The funding will enable Pepper Content to broaden its service offerings and extend its reach into new markets. Pepper Content currently boasts a network of over 30,000 content writers, graphic designers, language specialists, and editors on its platform.
Platform's Functionality
The Pepper Content platform acts as a facilitator, connecting content creators with businesses in need of content. This approach aims to establish a strong, organized, and high-quality ecosystem for content creators, emphasizing freelance and gig-based career opportunities. The company's core mission is to disrupt the existing content creation industry and create a more structured and quality-focused environment for content creators. They serve over 400 customers, including well-known names such as Amazon, Swiggy, Paytm, Max Bupa, Apollo Hospitals, and Adobe. With over 100,000 content pieces produced, creators on the platform have collectively earned more than $400,000 in the past two years.
Expansion Strategy
With the new funding, Pepper Content has plans for significant expansion. A primary objective is to venture into new content categories, specifically audio and video content, to meet the changing demands of the market. The company also aims to expand its geographical footprint, with a focus on Southeast Asia. Furthermore, in the last three months, Pepper Content has welcomed more than 150 enterprises and SMEs as customers, showing a strong revenue growth of 25% month-on-month. Dev Khare, Partner at Lightspeed India, highlighted the vision of using Pepper Content's platform to enable businesses globally to access high-quality content on-demand and at scale.
