Mercedes-AMG is developing a new V-8 engine, set to be released in late 2027, which promises to deliver more power than its predecessor, the M178 engine. The new engine, potentially codenamed M179, will be a high-tech electrified V-8 designed for performance models on the AMG.EA platform. The current M178 engine, launched in 2014, has powered various models, including the AMG GT Black Series, reaching up to 720 horsepower. Aston Martin's Valhalla uses a variation of this engine, tuned to 817 horsepower. Mercedes-AMG's Director of Vehicle Development, Steffen Jastrow, has indicated that the new engine will exceed the power output of the Black Series, with improved pedal response and efficiency to meet Euro 7 regulations.
