BENEO, a manufacturer of functional ingredients, has partnered with Rikolto and CarbonFarm to initiate a sustainable rice farming project in Vietnam. Funded by the Government of Flanders, the three-year initiative aims to train 1,000 farmers in the Mekong Delta on Sustainable Rice Platform standards. The project seeks to address environmental challenges in rice cultivation, such as methane emissions and inefficient water use. By implementing sustainable practices, the project aims to halve greenhouse gas emissions and reduce water usage by 30% without affecting yield. BENEO will develop the market for SRP-certified rice ingredients, while Rikolto will lead farmer training and CarbonFarm will provide digital tools for monitoring and assessment.
