Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana and the city of Gary have announced a joint initiative to allocate $5.5 million over five years for the purchase of more than 80 police vehicles for the Gary Police Department. The casino will contribute $3 million, while the city will match with $2.5 million. This funding aims to ensure the police department has the necessary resources to meet the city's needs, particularly as Gary becomes home to the Lake County Convention Center. The initiative will see Hard Rock donate $1 million in 2025, matched by $500,000 from the city, to purchase 23 new vehicles. From 2026 to 2029, both parties will contribute $500,000 annually to acquire 15 vehicles each year. The vehicles will be equipped with department-specific technology, including license plate readers and mobile data terminals.
