What's Happening?
Le Groupe ALMACO, a Canadian subsidiary of the Finland-based ALMACO Group, has been awarded a contract exceeding CAD 100 million by Chantier Davie Canada Inc. The contract involves outfitting the Canadian Coast Guard's Polar Max icebreaker, a significant project under the National Shipbuilding Strategy. This initiative aims to enhance Canada's Arctic operations and bolster Québec's position as a global shipbuilding hub. The Polar Max will be constructed through a collaborative effort between Davie's Helsinki Shipyard in Finland and its facilities in Lévis, Québec. The hull is being built in Finland, while ALMACO will handle the installation of accommodation areas and essential interior spaces. Québec shipbuilders will fabricate the 1,400-tonne superstructure, which will be integrated with the Finnish-built hull upon its arrival in Canada. The project is expected to be completed by 2030.
