The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) in Malaysia is intensifying its efforts to develop the country's rare earth elements (REE) industry. Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong announced that MITI is focusing on research and development to enhance local technology capabilities. The ministry aims to attract investors and bolster production activities along the REE supply chain. Strategies include collaborating with countries possessing REE expertise through government meetings, trade missions, and bilateral negotiations. Despite Malaysia's REE deposits, the country lacks the technological capability to process these elements locally. The New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the National Advanced Materials Technology Roadmap 2021-2030 are expected to support these efforts.
