Construction has commenced on O'Hare International Airport's new Terminal D, a $1.3 billion project aimed at accommodating future passenger growth. The project, managed by a joint venture including AECOM Hunt Clayco Bowa, marks the first major concourse development at the airport in over three decades. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Terminal D features a tree-like structural design inspired by the site's historical apple orchard. The concourse will include 19 gates for narrow-body aircraft, with flexibility for larger planes, and offer amenities such as lounge and commercial spaces. The project also includes $300 million in infrastructure improvements, such as a new cooling facility and utility work to support future expansions.
