What's Happening?
DP World has announced a significant expansion of its Carbon Inset Programme, increasing the credits offered to customers by fivefold. This initiative aims to help businesses reduce their indirect emissions, known as Scope 3 emissions. Starting October 1, 2025, every loaded container imported through DP World's UK ports will qualify for 250kg CO2e Carbon Inset credits, up from the previous 50kg CO2e. The credits address emissions from the entire port call of container ships, including tug and pilot boats, as they maneuver into London Gateway or Southampton. The increase in credits is facilitated by the use of lower carbon fuels by DP World's subsidiary Unifeeder and Svitzer, which are transitioning their tug boats to these fuels. The programme has seen strong interest since its launch, with over 200,000 TEUs registered since January.
