Kiewit Infrastructure West Co., based in Vancouver, Washington, has been awarded a $399.4 million contract to undertake the first phase of the Port of Nome modification project in Nome, Alaska. This initiative, sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Alaska District and the City of Nome, aims to deepen and expand the harbor to accommodate larger vessels. The project is funded by the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The existing harbor, built in 1917, requires annual dredging to maintain its basins and navigation channels. Phase 1A involves constructing a 1,200-foot causeway extension with approximately 600 feet of dock face, followed by Phase 2 dredging to deepen the basins up to 40 feet.
