What's Happening?
American Rare Earths has successfully produced heavy rare earths oxide (HREO) and light rare earths oxide (LREO) concentrates from its Halleck Creek Project in Wyoming. The University of Kentucky, as part of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Environmental Microbes as a BioEngineering Resource (EMBER) project, processed the allanite-based ore to achieve purity levels of 97.1% for HREO and 96.4% for LREO. This marks the first production of these oxides from Halleck Creek ore. The initiative involves collaboration with the US Department of Defense and aims to advance bio-recovery and traditional solvent extraction methods for rare earth element oxides. American Rare Earths provided 840kg of ore from 36 drill holes for processing, with consortium members including the University of Kentucky, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, and Penn State University.
