What's Happening?
Qantas has announced an order for 20 additional Airbus A321XLR aircraft, expanding its fleet to enhance international route capabilities. This order supplements the airline's existing commitment to 28 A321XLRs, with deliveries of the new aircraft set to begin in 2028. The A321XLRs will be equipped with lie-flat seats in business class and are intended for longer sectors, including short- and medium-haul international routes. Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson stated that the new aircraft will facilitate the retirement of older Boeing 737s and support the airline's expansion into Southeast Asia and potential new routes such as Perth-India and Adelaide-Singapore. The first A321XLR is expected to enter service in September, initially operating domestic routes before being deployed internationally.

The first A350 is set to enter final assembly in October, with the inaugural 'Project Sunrise' flight anticipated in 2027.
