What's Happening?
Corvus Energy has supplied a lithium-ion marine battery system for Trapananda, the first fully electric tugboat in Latin America. Developed by SAAM and Enap, the tugboat operates in Puerto Chacabuco, Chile. The vessel is equipped with a 3,616-kWh Corvus Orca ESS, enabling zero-emission and near-silent operations. This marks SAAM's third battery-electric tug, following two launches in Vancouver, Canada. The initiative is part of SAAM's 2030 Sustainability Strategy, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65% across its fleet.
