What's Happening?
The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) has christened the State of Maine, the third of five National Security Multi-Mission Vessels (NSMV), at Hanwha Philadelphia Shipyard. This vessel is designed to serve as a next-generation training ship for Maine Maritime Academy, supporting both academic development and humanitarian relief missions. The State of Maine can accommodate 600 cadets and up to 1,000 people during humanitarian missions. It features advanced facilities including classrooms, labs, a training bridge, and medical facilities. The vessel joins Empire State and Patriot State, with two more NSMVs under construction for Texas and California maritime academies.
