Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) and Salt River Project (SRP) have committed to purchasing capacity on the Transwestern Pipeline's Desert Southwest expansion project. This initiative aims to deliver natural gas from the Permian Basin in Texas to Arizona, supporting the development of data centers in APS's service area. APS, the anchor customer, plans to use the gas for its gas-fired power plants. The expansion involves constructing 516 miles of pipeline and adding compressor stations across Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, with a projected cost of $5.3 billion. The project is expected to increase the pipeline's capacity by 1.5 billion cubic feet per day, with completion targeted for late 2029. APS anticipates spending $7.3 billion over 25 years on gas purchases from this expansion.
