Boeing has commenced work on the initial test aircraft for the 777-8 Freighter, marking a significant milestone by drilling the first hole into a wing spar. The milestone event took place at Boeing's 777X Composite Spar Shop in Everett, Washington, with about 100 team members present. The first spar for the 777-8F's wing, measuring 33 meters long and weighing 565 kilograms, was completed earlier in July. Boeing had initially planned to introduce the twinjet freighter to the market in 2027 but announced a delay until 2028 in October 2024. Since the program's announcement in 2022, customers have ordered 59 units of the 777-8F, with Qatar Airways as the launch customer.
