Amid the worsening air pollution in the national capital city, the Delhi government has reportedly announced plans to install air purifiers in 10,000 classrooms

of government schools. As of now, 10,000 schools will be covered as first phase, and more classrooms are expected to be added later. This announcement was made by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood on December 18, 2025(Thursday). The decision has been taken to ensure that the indoor air (inside classrooms) is clean for school students in government-run schools across the national capital. While many private schools invest in getting air purifiers in classrooms, it was often debated that government school students shouldn't have to suffer due to the city's worsening air pollution. This imitative is expected to help in ensuring government school students' health also stays a priority. Sood stated that the first phase will cover 10,000 classrooms, after which the project will be expanded to include all classrooms in Delhi government schools. \"In the next phase, air purifiers will be installed in every classroom of government schools. We do not play with children's breathing, nor will we allow anyone to do so,\" Sood said. Meanwhile, the Delhi government, Noida, Greater Noida and Gurugram administrators have announced partial school closures for school students. In Delhi, all schools have been instructed to only conduct online classes for students of Nursery to Class 5, and hybrid mode for classes 6-11 (with the exception of class 10 and 12). In Noida, Greater Noida and Gurugram, all students have been shifted to hybrid mode, i.e. students are given the option of attending online and offline classes as per the convenience. However, offline classes are being conducted for class 10 and 12 students due to the incoming board exams 2026, that are scheduled to begin in February 2026 for CBSE, and around the same time for other state boards and CISCE.
