In a latest development, the EV company has now launched the second-generation of its proprietary Blade Battery in China and here's why it matters to all EV buyers.

\nThe new-generation Blade Battery comes with Flash charging technology. BYD claims that the new tech allows its battery pack to recharge at record speeds. The Gen 2 Blade battery has even set a world record for charging from 10 percent to 70 percent in 5 minutes, while achieving a 97 percent charge in just 9 minutes. The other highlight of the Gen 2 battery is its low-temperature performance, which is another common pain point among EV owners. BYD claims the new batteries achieve a 20 percent to 97 percent charge with only a 3-minute delay under extreme temperatures of up to -30 degrees Celsius. \n

\nIn terms of the energy density, BYD has announced that the new generation batteries have a 5 percent overall increase in energy density when compared to the first generation packs and the engineers have now designed a 'Lithium-Ion High Speed Channel' and Full-Spectrum Intelligent Thermal Management System' into the battery packs that make them safer and exceed the Chinese national standards for battery safety.\n

With Indian EVs such as the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e already offering range figures of over 680 km, we might get to see future models feature the Gen 2 BYD batteries soon, with extended range figures and faster charging, which potentially eliminate two major bottlenecks in India's EV adoption rate.
