Ather Energy, which is India’s one of leading electric two-wheeler brands, is preparing for its next big leap, as the company has filed a design patent

for a brand-new electric scooter built on its upcoming EL platform. According to the patent filing, the upcoming scooter looks very similar to the EL01 concept that Ather showcased during its Community Day event in 2025. Concept vehicles are usually design studies that show what a future product might look like and in this case, Ather seems quite serious about bringing the EL01’s design to reality. The patented version closely follows the same clean and modern shape with the only noticeable addition being rear-view mirrors, which are mandatory for road use. The overall design features a large LED daytime running light at the front, which gives the scooter a distinctive identity, along with a sleek LED tail-lamp at the rear. The body panels look smooth and uncluttered. It is designed to support battery packs ranging from 2kWh to 5kWh. The EL01 concept featured a 14-inch front wheel and a 12-inch rear wheel, along with a swingarm-mounted motor, which is expected to carry over to the production model. This setup can help improve ride comfort and handling. The concept also had a 7-inch TFT touchscreen display. Ather has officially stated that the first scooter based on the EL platform will arrive during the festive season of 2026. The scooters on this new platform will be sold alongside the existing Ather 450 series and the family-focused Rizta, which will give customers more choices rather than replacing current models immediately. The company has also revealed that the EL platform can support three different scooter styles, which are- a maxi-scooter with larger wheels and a big 5kWh battery, a sporty scooter with a smaller battery and compact size and a family-oriented scooter with a longer seat and comfort-focused suspension. Looking at the safety, the EL platform will introduce Ather’s Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS). This system aims to reduce braking distance and prevent rear-wheel lock-ups, improving safety during sudden stops. A new Charge Drive Controller will combine the charger and motor controller into one unit, freeing up storage space and removing the need for a separate portable charger.
