India’s major state-run oil and gas companies moved on Tuesday to reassure millions of domestic consumers across the country that LPG, CNG, and PNG supplies will remain unaffected, even as the ongoing

Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz continue to rattle global energy markets and raise fears of a fuel crisis at home.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) issued identical statements on X, saying steps have been taken to boost LPG production and ensure its availability for households first. “Requests from other non-domestic sectors will be reviewed by a committee of Executive Directors from Oil Marketing Companies and prioritised based on merit, necessity, and product availability,” both companies said.

For piped natural gas users, the reassurances were equally firm. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) said it is prioritising domestic PNG supply with government backing, adding that “customer service is at the heart of every endeavour” it undertakes. Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) went a step further, confirming that household PNG demand is being met entirely through domestically produced gas, making it immune to global supply shocks. “Domestic household PNG demand is met through 100% domestically produced gas, ensuring an uninterrupted supply,” the company stated on X.

Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) kept its messaging light but direct, urging PNG users not to worry. “Global tensions may rise, but your kitchen shouldn’t pause,” the company posted on X, highlighting the no-booking, no-waiting advantage of piped gas connections.

The coordinated messaging from India’s top energy firms comes at a critical moment. With the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly a fifth of the world’s oil passes, remaining closed to shipments, crude prices have surged and supply chain anxiety has deepened globally. India, which imports over 85 per cent of its crude oil needs, is particularly exposed to any prolonged disruption.
