Delhi woke up to a thick layer of smog once again on Thursday as the Air Quality Index (AQI) hovered between “very poor” and “severe” categories, triggering fresh health advisories and restrictions across

the national capital. Visibility dropped in several areas, flights were delayed, and residents reported breathing discomfort, eye irritation, and persistent coughing.

According to air quality monitoring agencies, pollution levels in the Capital surge every year due to a combination of vehicular emissions, construction dust, stagnant winds, and seasonal factors. Hospitals across the city report a rise in patients with respiratory problems, particularly children and the elderly, during winter months. Schools too are forced to limit outdoor activities, while authorities urge residents to stay indoors and wear masks if stepping out.
