The Mahayuti, the alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, promised freedom from potholes, slums and even Bangladeshis and Rohingya in its manifesto released for the Brihanmumbai

Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls released on Sunday. Mumbai’s BMC elections will be held on January 15 (Thursday). Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, BJP leaders Ashish Shelar, Amit Satam, and others were present. Mumbai residents gave 265,000 suggestions, and the manifesto was prepared based on those, said BJP Mumbai president Amit Satam.

The Mahayuti manifesto promises improvements in basic infrastructure, health, education, and more. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the Mahayuti manifesto focuses on inclusive development, modern infrastructure, and sustainability to transform Mumbai.

Fadnavis announced upgrade to Mumbai’s suburban railway network, a 50 per cent travel concession for women commuters on BEST buses, expansion of water transport services, and an increase in BEST bus fleet from 5,000 to 10,000 buses. He said the advanced AI-based tools developed with the help of IIT Bombay would be used to identify illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators.

The CM announced an investment of Rs 17,000 crore to improve water and air quality, reduce carbon emissions.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said that in the past three-and-a-half years, they have done a lot for Mumbai, which is the country’s growth engine, and the manifesto reflects that. He also said that Marathi people who have left Mumbai will be brought back.

MAHAYUTI’S MANIFESTO: KEY POINTS

Roads: Making roads less than 9 meters wide asphalt and those wider than 9 meters concrete; utility ducts on bigger roads to avoid digging; utility tunnels for 17 services to prevent potholes.

Infra and hawkers: Thane-Borivali underground route to reduce travel time to 10-15 minutes; rehabilitation of eligible hawkers in hawking zones, creating non-hawker zones elsewhere; 50% discount on BEST bus fares for women; increasing parking capacity with underground and ground-level parking; AI labs in municipal schools.

Loans and aid for Kolis: Interest-free loans of up to 5 lakh rupees for small businesses; development work with the involvement of the Koli community.

Water supply, property tax and drainage: 24-hour water supply for Mumbai and increasing water storage capacity; installation of flow meters in every zone for equal water distribution; freeing Mumbai from tanker mafias. property tax discounts for housing societies that harvest rainwater, improving Mumbai’s drainage system.

Redevelopment: Special schemes for Koliwada villages for redevelopment; speeding up group development under the Mumbai Falili scheme, development plans for Gorai/Manori villages; using funds for citizen facilities in SRA layouts; planned and comprehensive development of slums with more amenities; approval for 17 projects with more to be added; providing homes for project-affected people, resolving issues with 20,000 buildings, issuing occupancy certificates quickly, sustainable construction for tenement buildings in the eastern and western suburbs.
