The ongoing Iran-Israel conflict continues to severely disrupt air travel, with hundreds of flights cancelled over three consecutive days and major international routes impacted due to restricted airspace

across parts of the Middle East.

At Delhi airport alone, as many as 410 flights operated by Indian carriers were cancelled on February 28 amid escalating regional tensions. The disruptions continued into March 1, with at least 350 flights scrapped. On March 2, a minimum of 300 flights are expected to be affected as airlines grapple with operational constraints and rerouting challenges.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is coordinating with airlines and other agencies to manage the fallout, while the Passenger Assistance Control Room is overseeing the redressal of passenger grievances and ensuring support for affected travellers.

Europe Routes Among The Worst Hit

Routes to major European destinations have borne the brunt of the disruption. Flights to cities including London, Zurich, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Milan and Vienna have been impacted due to airspace closures and rerouting over conflict-sensitive zones. Airlines are being forced to take longer alternative routes, resulting in extended flying times and operational complications.

International Carriers Suspend Operations

Several international carriers have temporarily halted services to and from the region. Qatar Airways has suspended all operations in the region until March 2 and is expected to issue a further update. Similarly, Etihad Airways has cancelled all flights to and from Abu Dhabi until March 2.

Air India Extends Suspension

Air India has extended its suspension of flights to and from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Qatar until 11.59 pm on March 2, 2026, citing safety and operational concerns arising from the conflict.

\n In a statement, the airline said select Europe-bound flights scheduled for March 2 have also been cancelled, along with their return legs. These include services between Amritsar and Birmingham, Delhi and Zurich, Delhi and Copenhagen, and Birmingham to Delhi.

The Indian carrier added that other flights to North America and Europe will continue to operate. They will follow alternative routings through available Middle Eastern airspaces, adding to overall travel time. Flights to New York’s JFK and Newark Liberty International Airport will operate with technical stops at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, it further said.

The airline said it is continuously assessing the evolving situation, factoring in safety, security, airspace availability and operational feasibility before finalising schedules. The airline has begun notifying affected passengers and is arranging alternative travel options.
