Cold wave conditions and dense fog are set to intensify in North India as the temperature is likely to plummet further. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in Delhi for

Sunday and Monday. The national capital recorded the coldest morning of the winter on Saturday, with the minimum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory settling at 4.2 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD, the condition would worsen over the next two days in the northern states. IMD has predicted moderate to dense fog and a warning of cold wave conditions on Sunday and Monday.

Dense to moderate fog is expected during the morning hours as temperatures continue to drop sharply across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and other states.

According to the IMD, cold wave conditions are declared when the minimum temperature falls between 4.5 to 6.4 degrees below normal, depending on local climatology.

Delhi airport issues passenger advisory

The Indira Gandhi International Airport administration has issued a passenger advisory. However, no delay in flights is reported; passengers have been advised to check the flight status beforehand.

A significant drop in temperatures was observed across Delhi’s weather stations on Saturday.

The station-wise maximum temperatures were recorded as follows: Safdarjung at 19.7 degrees Celsius, Palam at 17.2 degrees Celsius, Lodi Road at 18.8 degrees Celsius, the Ridge at 17.9 degrees Celsius, and Ayanagar at 19.0 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperatures highlighted the severity of the cold spell, with Safdarjung at 4.2 degrees Celsius, Palam at 4.5 degrees Celsius, Lodi Road at 4.7 degrees Celsius, the Ridge at 5.3 degrees Celsius, and Ayanagar also at 4.5 degrees Celsius.
