Ahead of Holi, the Food Safety Department carried out an extensive enforcement drive across Lucknow, seizing large quantities of adulterated and expired food items and destroying several products on the spot.

During a raid at a storage warehouse in Faizullaganj, officials recovered 112 kgs of expired sweets from a facility linked to Haldiram. The inspection team immediately destroyed expired stocks of sonpapdi and rajbhog. Samples of assorted peda, rasgulla, gulab jamun, petha and gujiya were collected and sealed for laboratory testing.

As part of the citywide campaign, the department seized a total of 10,415 kgs of suspected adulterated spices and khoya, estimated to be worth around Rs 55.91 lakh. Action was also taken at Aishbagh Cold Storage, where officials confiscated 8,499 kgs of black pepper and 378 kgs of khoya.

Fifteen samples of suspected food items were sent to laboratories for analysis. In a separate inspection at Globe Cafe in the Metropolitan area, officials collected samples of paneer and gujiya and destroyed about 112 kgs of food items, valued at approximately Rs 45,000, on the spot.

Food Safety Department officials said the special drive is being conducted in view of the upcoming festival and ongoing wedding season to ensure the availability of safe and quality food products. Further legal action will be initiated against the establishments concerned after the laboratory reports are received.
