Aamir Khan got candid about the growing impact of social media during a recent conversation with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The two were speaking at the Lokmat Maharashtrian Of The Year

2026 event held at Mumbai’s iconic Gateway of India. The discussion touched on several topics, including social media addiction and its influence on younger generations.

During the interaction, Aamir reflected on how his own habits have changed over the years because of the increasing presence of social media platforms. He said, “I have this point of view and I may or may not be right. But I feel that social media has had a deep impact on all of us. It has a lot of advantages. But there was a time when I used to read 2-3 books in just one week.”

The actor continued, “I would read while I was on my way or even while having breakfast. Despite my hectic schedule, I used to read books. Now, I am wasting time on YouTube or watching Instagram Reels! I also know that this is not good for me.”

According to Aamir, the algorithm of social media keeps viewers hooked by showcasing them the content as per their interests. “It’s like being hypnotised,” he remarked.

Aamir Khan On Addictive Nature Of Social Media

Further in the same chat, Aamir mentioned that social media offers several benefits but its addictive nature can easily consume people’s time. He also expressed concern about the impact of social media on younger users.

In his words, “Hamari toh umar ho gayi hai, but the youngsters can get impacted deeply. I am not against it but we need to think about it. There are many countries that are implementing the rule that children under 16 can’t use social media. I wonder how it’ll be implemented but the thought process is correct as their minds are getting corrupted. Unke brains ki re-wiring ho rahi hai.”

Aamir Khan’s Last Film

On the work front, Aamir Khan was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par. The film also features Genelia Deshmukh in a key role and introduces 10 debutant neurodivergent actors, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharma, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Ashish Pendse, Samvit Desai, Simran Mangeshkar and Aayush Bhansali.
