West Asia Conflict: In a major relief to thousands of Indians stranded in the UAE, flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi began landing in India on Monday night as airlines resumed limited operations following

days of suspension due to the ongoing Israel–Iran conflict.

Indian aviation authorities have said flights are being resumed only to destinations where airspace has been declared safe and open, including Oman and Saudi Arabia.

MoCA Announces Special Relief Operations

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has announced special relief operations to facilitate the movement of stranded passengers. It said that airlines are deploying additional capacity where required and coordinating closely with foreign aviation authorities and Indian missions abroad to ensure safe and orderly passenger movement.

Which Airlines Are Running Special Flights?

IndiGo

The Ministry said that IndiGo would undertake 10 special relief operations from Jeddah on March 3 to help stranded passengers, subject to approvals and airspace conditions. The airline is coordinating with the Consulate General of India in Jeddah.

In a travel advisory, the airline said it would operate four dedicated flights from Jeddah to Mumbai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad on Tuesday to help customers who were already booked but unable to travel earlier.

“These flights are being arranged to cater to customers who were already booked on our flights and have been unable to travel due to the prevailing circumstances,” IndiGo said. The airline urged passengers not to proceed to the airport unless notified and to ensure their booking and contact details are updated to receive timely information.

SpiceJet

SpiceJet also announced that it will operate four special flights on Tuesday to bring stranded passengers. It also announced to restore scheduled flights between Fujairah-Delhi and Fujairah-Mumbai starting March 4.

“At a time like this, our priority is to support Indian citizens who are facing uncertainty and want to return home,” said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet. “We are grateful to the authorities for their coordination, which has made these special flights possible. SpiceJet stands ready to operate more such services, wherever required, to assist our people,” the airline said in press release.

Air India and Air India Express

Air India has resumed its long-haul operations to the United States, Canada, Europe and the United Kingdom, though some Middle East services remain suspended. Air India Express is resuming scheduled flights between Muscat and Indian cities including Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, Mumbai and Tiruchirappalli.

Foreign carriers operating between India and the Gulf region are also undertaking limited operations, subject to operational and airspace considerations. Dubai Airports confirmed a partial restart at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport but advised passengers to travel only if directly contacted by their airline, as most flights remain suspended.

Emirates

The UAE-based airline on Monday said that it will begin operating a limited number of flights commencing on the evening of March 2. It started a limited number of flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi after partial reopening of airspace.

It operated select services to Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai, prioritising passengers who were earlier booked but stranded.

Etihad

Etihad operated evacuation services from Abu Dhabi to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kochi. The airline also arranged hotel accommodations for stranded passengers during the suspension period.

However, it announced that scheduled commercial flights to and from Abu Dhabi remain suspended until 14:00 UAE time on Wednesday, March 4.

Flydubai

The Dubai-based airlines also announced to run special flights from Dubai to rescue stranded passengers.

Additionally, Qatar Airways, Saudia, Gulf Air,Oman Air, Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Cathay Pacific, United Airlines and Delta have resumed partial operations from the region to evacuate stranded passengers.

With flights gradually taking to the skies once again, normalcy is slowly returning to the UAE, and for the thousands of Indians eager to get home, the wait is finally coming to an end.
