Several parts of northern India will continue to witness freezing temperatures as cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are likely over isolated places in Delhi and the National Capital Region, Haryana,

Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh over the next few days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned.

According to the bulletin issued on Sunday, the weatherman warned that cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are likely to occur over isolated pockets in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and western Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are expected to witness the cold wave streak on Tuesday, January 13.

Delhi colder than Shimla?

Interestingly, temperatures in plains, including Delhi and Chandigarh, dipped below those in hilly areas, as the national capital witnessed the coldest day in 13 years on Saturday, January 10.

Safdarjung, representative of Delhi’s weather, recorded a minimum of 4.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday, January 10.

On Monday, temperatures in Shimla are likely to hover around maximum and minimum of 16 and 9 degrees Celsius respectively, said the IMD on Monday.

However, for Delhi, the weather body has predicted that the minimum temperature could dip to 3-4.2 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature might range between 18-20 degrees Celsius.

Dense Fog is also very likely at places in Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Rajasthan, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Uttarakhand, till Thursday, January 15, said the IMD.
