As the Iran war entered its 13th day and Tehran continued retaliation following Israeli strikes, India co-sponsored a resolution in the United Nations Security Council condemning attacks by Iran against

Gulf countries and Jordan.

The resolution condemned what it described as “egregious” attacks by Iran against countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan. It also demanded the immediate cessation of all attacks by Tehran and denounced threats to close the Strait of Hormuz.\n

The 15-member United Nations Security Council, currently under the presidency of the United States, adopted the resolution on Wednesday. It received 13 votes in favour, none against, while permanent members China and Russia abstained.

India co-sponsored the Bahrain-led resolution along with more than 130 countries. The co-sponsors included Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States, Yemen and Zambia.

Iran attacks Gulf

Iran has launched missile and drone attacks on all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states since February 28, the first day of the US-Israel-Iran war. This is the first time Tehran has directly targeted the entire Gulf region.

The strikes hit airports, military bases, oil facilities and ports across the region. In the United Arab Emirates, attacks targeted Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports, the Al Dhafra base and the Fujairah refinery. Six people were killed and 122 injured, while fires were reported at airport sites.

In Kuwait, missiles and drones struck Ali Al Salem and Camp Buehring bases, Kuwait International Airport and the US embassy, killing six US soldiers and two guards. Three F-15 fighter jets were also downed.

Bahrain reported one woman killed and eight injured after strikes near Manama and sites linked to the US Fifth Fleet. Saudi Arabia saw attacks on the Ras Tanura refinery and Shaybah oilfield, killing two civilians and causing a refinery fire.

Iran fired more than 1,000 projectiles. While over 90 per cent were intercepted, debris caused fires and casualties, disrupted oil and LNG supplies, and pushed Brent crude to $92-$100 per barrel.
