Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Suryakumar Yadav took the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 title to the famous Shree Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai as the duo offered their prayers to Lord Vinayaka.

The Men in Blue scripted history by thumping New Zealand in the final of the ICC showpiece in Ahmedabad to become the most successful side in the history of the tournament.

Suryakumuar Yadav joined the likes of the legendary MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to lift the illustrious trophy, as India also became the first team to successfully defend the crown.

India posted an impressive total of 255 runs in 20 overs before bowling out the Kiwis for just 159 runs in 19 overs. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave the men in blue a solid start with a 98-run partnership. Sharma was dismissed by Rachin Ravindra after scoring 52 off 21 balls. Ishan Kishan then joined Samson, adding 54 off 25 balls to continue the aggressive play. Jimmy Neesham dismissed Samson, who scored 89 runs off 46 balls, and also took the wicket of Kishan.

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for a golden duck, with Neesham claiming his third wicket. Hardik Pandya scored 18 off 13 balls before being dismissed by Matt Henry. Shivam Dube and Tilak Verma helped India reach a massive total, remaining unbeaten with 26 off 8 and 8 off 6 deliveries, respectively.

The Kiwis started their chase with Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. Allen got an early reprieve when Shivam Dube dropped him, but he was soon dismissed by Axar Patel for 9 off 7 balls. Jasprit Bumrah removed Rachin Ravindra for 1 off 2 balls, with Ishan Kishan taking the catch. Glenn Phillips was bowled by Axar Patel after scoring 5 runs off 5 balls.

Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave the men in blue a tremendous start with a 98-run partnership. Sharma fell to Rachin Ravindra after scoring 52 off 21 deliveries.
