New Delhi: Renault is preparing to expand its SUV line-up in India with a new sub-4-metre model that could arrive around Diwali 2027. The vehicle is internally

known as the RB3-K2 B-SUV and will join the company’s range roughly 18 months after the launch of the next-generation Renault Duster. The plan is to enter the fast-growing compact SUV segment with multiple powertrain choices.

According to information reported by Autocar Professional, the upcoming SUV could come with one of the widest powertrain options in its segment. Petrol, hybrid, CNG and fully electric versions are currently being evaluated. The strategy appears to be aimed at attracting a wide range of buyers while helping the brand increase its presence in the compact SUV market.\n

Multiple powertrain options under consideration

The SUV may introduce a new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Apart from this, a turbocharged petrol option is also expected to be part of the line-up. The company is also looking at a hybrid version.

An electric variant is reportedly being studied as well. If it reaches production, the EV could be offered with two battery options, including 35kWh and 55kWh. By offering several powertrain choices, the company aims to cover a broad price range, which could fall between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).

The upcoming SUV is internally being described as a “mini-Duster.” It is expected to take design inspiration from the Renault Bridger Concept, which previews the company’s future design language for emerging markets. In the line-up, the model is likely to be positioned between the Renault Kiger and the next-generation Duster.

Renault’s broader product plan for India

The compact SUV will reportedly be built on Renault’s R-GMP modular architecture, which is being localised for the Indian market. The platform could also be used for other upcoming models and is expected to help the brand improve volumes in the country.

The new compact SUV is part of a larger revival plan for Renault in India. Along with this model, the company is preparing three new SUVs, the next-generation Duster, the Renault Bigster and the smaller “mini-Duster.” These launches are expected to strengthen the brand’s presence in the SUV segment, which is currently dominated by rivals such as Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors.
