Mumbai: 3 Idiots needs no special introduction as it was surely one of the most iconic films ever made in Bollywood. As per the latest news, Aamir Khan

is getting together with Rajkumar Hirani for the sequel. Reportedly, the script for Dadasaheb Phalke was not working out. It was then that the filmmaker cracked the idea for the sequel to 3 Idiots.

Previously, reports about plans for such a sequel with the same cast as the first movie emerged last year. “The script has been locked, and the team is extremely excited for it. They feel the magic of the first film has returned, and it is as funny, as emotional, and as meaningful as the first part,” said a source to Pinkvilla at the time.

“The story will be a continuation, picking up nearly 15 years after the characters went their separate ways in the climax scene and reunite for a new adventure,” said the source.

Rajkumar and Aamir were working on the much-anticipated biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke. However, they were not satisfied and decided to circle back to the sequel for 3 Idiots.

“He dedicated time to expand the 3 Idiots sequel into a full-fledged screenplay. Hirani always had a seed of an idea for 3 Idiots 2, but he wanted it to be perfect and something that would stand up to the legacy of the original,” said a report.

3 Idiots was released in 2009. At the time, it was a blockbuster earning Rs 395–460 crore worldwide. It was the first film to gross over Rs 300 crore and held that record for years.
