New Delhi: Google has announced the release of its Gemini integration of the Chrome browser to new markets, such as India, Canada, and New Zealand. The

feature enables a user to use the Gemini AI assistant in Chrome, simply by clicking a sidebar on the desktop, and makes it easier to ask questions about what is available on the screen and engage with information on a number of tabs.

Through this growth, the user in India can use Gemini to summarise web pages, compare data in multiple tabs, and view data on services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Keep, and YouTube. The integration will ensure users remain within the browser as they work on the tasks, thereby eliminating the need to change applications.

Gemini sidebar brings AI assistance inside Chrome

Those who get the feature will have an Ask Gemini icon on the tab bar of Chrome. By clicking it, they can open a sidebar in which they may ask questions regarding the content that they are reading, request it to be summarised, or even create quizzes to make it easier to grasp something.

Gemini is also capable of working on several tabs simultaneously. As an example, when a user is comparing products or travel tickets in various tabs, they can request the assistant to analyse and compare the information on their behalf. This makes it quicker to research and make decisions directly in the browser.

Support for Indian languages

Gemini in Chrome will also support a number of Indian languages as a rollout. They are Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil as well as English and other languages that are supported by Chrome.

Google originally launched the Gemini in Chrome in the United States in September of last year as a floating window. In the first half of the year, the firm also included sidebar-based tools, which constitute the main interface in the extended rollout.

Integration with Google apps for contextual tasks

Gemini also has the opportunity to interconnect with a number of Google services to give more personal responses. It has the capability of accessing Gmail, Maps, and Calendar as well as YouTube to allow users to perform tasks without having to leave the browser window.

The integration also enables users to use the Google Nano Banana 2 generative AI tool on Gemini on Chrome. This is a tool that has the power to change images. E.g., a consumer who needs to buy a piece of furniture might take a picture of his or her room and request Gemini to represent the appearance of an item in that room.

Google also affirmed that Gemini support is being released to Chrome in iOS in India. The page tools icon will be shown to users in the address bar when it is available.

Nevertheless, there are still certain superior AI options that are confined to the United States. The newer agentic capabilities of Google that can assume control of the browser and carry out tasks automatically will not be included in the current rollout in India, Canada, or New Zealand.
