New Delhi: At least six people were injured after a speeding Lamborghini allegedly driven by the son of a prominent tobacco trader rammed into pedestrians

and multiple vehicles in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Sunday.

The incident took place around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall on VIP Road in the Gwaltoli area of the city. The driver was identified as Shivam Kumar Mishra, son of businessman KK Mishra. According to a PTI report, the luxury car, bearing a Delhi registration number, has been seized and an FIR is being registered.

According to DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava, the vehicle went out of control and ploughed into people standing along the roadside as well as two-wheelers and an autorickshaw. “The injured were provided primary treatment. An FIR will be registered, and further legal action will follow,” he told PTI.

Impact flung bike rider into air

The car first collided with an autorickshaw and then hit a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle. The impact reportedly flung the rider several feet into the air. The car then mounted the motorcycle’s front wheel and dragged it for some distance before crashing into an electric pole and coming to a halt.

Police said one of the injured, identified as Taufiq, sustained leg injuries after being thrown several metres while trying to escape the vehicle. Others suffered fractures and bruises.

The accused driver also suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital. The station house officer of Gwaltoli police station said the driver’s bodyguards, who were following him in another vehicle, shifted him for treatment soon after the crash.

Bouncers accompanying accused misbehaved with bystanders

Some eyewitnesses alleged that private bouncers accompanying him misbehaved with bystanders. Protests later broke out at the police station, where some locals accused authorities of going soft on the accused due to his family’s influence and delaying the registration of a case.

Police said CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts are being examined as part of the investigation.
