New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to again consult its government and take a call regarding the India match boycott in the T20 World

Cup 2026. This development has taken place after the Sri Lankan cricket board placed a request in front of the PCB to reconsider the decision of not playing against arch-rivals India.

The traditional rivals are set to clash in a Group A match in Colombo on February 15 with the Pakistan government allowing the PCB to send the national team for the marquee event but stopped it from playing against the Men in Blue. Because of the commercial viabilities of the India-Pakistan encounter, the boycott will not go in favour of the cricketing world.

SL emails PCB

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket has sent an email to the PCB saying that boycotting the February 14 fixture will cause heavy financial losses to the SLC and also hurt the organisation and the image pf the tournament in the island nation which happens to be the joint-host of the marquee event with India. Pakistan is playing all its games in Colombo and Pallekele.

‘Obviously Pakistan has always enjoyed very close and friendly ties with Sri Lanka at the government to government and cricket level. So the mail from their Board can’t be ignored just like that,’ a source aware of the developments said on Saturday.

‘Mohsin Naqvi has been contacted directly by the Sri Lankan Board President Shammi Silva and been reminded that at this time Sri Lanka need Pakistan to step up for them as without Pakistan and India matches, the Sri Lankan Board would stand to lose extra revenues from gate money, hospitality sales etc,’ the source added.

The source said that Naqvi had assured his counterpart (Shammi Silva) that he would consult the government and get back to him. He said media reports that Pakistan had also rejected Sri Lanka’s request were not correct.
