\n A status update by Kpler on container vessel movements between February 28 and March 4 shows a large number of ships either stranded, diverted, or waiting for instructions amid heightened security concerns.\n

\n According to Kpler’s analysis, 87 container vessels are currently inside the Gulf and continuing with regional port calls, though activity remains cautious. Another 37 vessels inside the Gulf are attempting to exit but are unable to transit, suggesting operational bottlenecks as shipping companies assess safety risks.\n\n

\n Outside the Gulf, the disruption is also evident. Sixteen vessels are waiting outside the region for clearance or instructions, while 43 vessels have already been diverted to alternative ports. Meanwhile, 40 vessels are still sailing towards the region.\n

\n The report also breaks down the number of vessels currently present in the Gulf by major shipping lines. CMA CGM has 14 vessels in the region, followed by MSC with 12 vessels. Maersk has eight ships, while COSCO Shipping has seven and Hapag-Lloyd has six vessels in the Gulf.\n\n

\n The report states that many of these ships remain in the region because their next scheduled port calls are within the Gulf, including major regional hubs such as Port of Jebel Ali, Khalifa Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Hamad Port and the Port of Umm Qasr.\n

\n However, Kpler notes that port activity across the Gulf has significantly reduced. \"In several cases, vessels are choosing to hold offshore instead of approaching terminals, positioning themselves outside potential strike zones as concerns persist over the safety of port infrastructure,\" the report said.\n\n

\n The sharp fall in tanker traffic and the growing number of vessels waiting or diverting underscore the mounting disruption to maritime trade flows in the Gulf, one of the world’s most critical energy and shipping corridors.\n
